It reads like a book written to sell in the Western world and looking at how popular this book is， I'd say the plan worked just right。 It is superficial book， written quite conveniently taking too much creative liberty。 If you think this book will tell you anything about Rumi， mysticism， spiritualism， Sufism then don't read it。 The parallel plot in the book about Ella & Aziz was a cliché- almost script of a Hollywood romantic movie。 The plot about Rumi and Shams has a great built up but very lit It reads like a book written to sell in the Western world and looking at how popular this book is， I'd say the plan worked just right。 It is superficial book， written quite conveniently taking too much creative liberty。 If you think this book will tell you anything about Rumi， mysticism， spiritualism， Sufism then don't read it。 The parallel plot in the book about Ella & Aziz was a cliché- almost script of a Hollywood romantic movie。 The plot about Rumi and Shams has a great built up but very little substance to it。 Its not a terrible book though， it has its high points too-The narrative style I liked very much， how each chapter is from a different POV。 There are the 40 rules of love in the book， which even though did not come through to me personally， but many people seem to have connected to them a lot。 And if nothing else， the book did inspire some interest in me to read more on Sufism and Rumi。 Also to the book's credit it was a very easy read。 Even though it wasn't too interesting， it wasn't a drag either。 That is a compliment， given how long the book is。 Fun fact- there is an uncanny resemblance to the main plot of Shams & Rumi with the plot and treatment of Satya & Bhikumatre （2 protagonists from one the greatest Indian movie- Satya）。 In both the cases Rumi/Bhiku are the lead protagonists， but in the story we see/read Satya/Shams are the driving force of the narrative。 I once heard RGV say that with Satya he wanted to bring Howard Roark （from The Fountainhead） to the underworld。 I wonder if he knows about this resemblance。 。。。more

This was given to me and recommended by my Iranian/American daughter-in-law。 She's always loved Rumi and Sufis。 I enjoyed this read very much especially the back and forth time changes and all the interesting characters。 And to weave it all together with a unhappily married housewife in Northampton， MA [what we locals refer to as Noho] was most interesting。 It's a very good read and I recommend it highly。 Especially if you're fond of very short chapters！ I got into short chapters when I started This was given to me and recommended by my Iranian/American daughter-in-law。 She's always loved Rumi and Sufis。 I enjoyed this read very much especially the back and forth time changes and all the interesting characters。 And to weave it all together with a unhappily married housewife in Northampton， MA [what we locals refer to as Noho] was most interesting。 It's a very good read and I recommend it highly。 Especially if you're fond of very short chapters！ I got into short chapters when I started reading Margaret Atwood， though， hers are not usually as short as the ones in this book。 。。。more

استمتعت ببداية الرواية حقاً و كانت ذات وقع جميل في حياتي。。 لكن توقف صخب الرواية عند الصفحة 320بعدها توقفت عن قراءة الباقي و أمضيت نظرة سريعة خاطفة على الباقي لأرى نهاية الرواية كيف سيكون 。。。 شعرت ان الجزء الأخير منها شيء خاطىء و شيء لا أعرف كيف اصفه بالكلمات حقاً！！ بدأت تتناقض معي و رأيت انها ممله غير متوافقه معي

النهاردة خلصت قواعد العشق، قرأت ٣٠٠ صفحة ورا بعض، ولكن صراحة ده مش من حلاوة الكتاب، قد مأنا ورايا مقال فكنت مضطر أقعد اقرأهم。القصة والسرد وتداخل قصة شمس والرومي مع إيلا و عزيز جيد، ولكن ده لو أتعملنا معاها كقصة من خيال المؤلف، مش لأشخاص عارفينهم وعارفين قدرهم。حسيت تناول الرومي وشمس كان سطحي وسريع، أو كان عادي طول القراءة حاسس إنها بتجري على الماية وهي بتتناول الشخصيات، كنت مستنيها تهدى وتبدأ بالغواص في الأعماق لحد أخر الرواية ولكن ده محصلش。العلاقة بين الرومي والتبريزي موتراني جدا طول القراءة، خص النهاردة خلصت قواعد العشق، قرأت ٣٠٠ صفحة ورا بعض، ولكن صراحة ده مش من حلاوة الكتاب، قد مأنا ورايا مقال فكنت مضطر أقعد اقرأهم。القصة والسرد وتداخل قصة شمس والرومي مع إيلا و عزيز جيد، ولكن ده لو أتعملنا معاها كقصة من خيال المؤلف، مش لأشخاص عارفينهم وعارفين قدرهم。حسيت تناول الرومي وشمس كان سطحي وسريع، أو كان عادي طول القراءة حاسس إنها بتجري على الماية وهي بتتناول الشخصيات، كنت مستنيها تهدى وتبدأ بالغواص في الأعماق لحد أخر الرواية ولكن ده محصلش。العلاقة بين الرومي والتبريزي موتراني جدا طول القراءة، خصوصا لما شمس مشى والرومي بدأ يعيط ويتغير، حقيقي لو شمس كان واحدة كنت هحب الموضوع أكتر، بل وساعات بتخيله كدة فعلا، ومش قادر أغفر للرومي أنه يسيب بيته وحياته وكل حاجة عشان شمس。في الوقت ذاته القواعد والكلام الصوفي على الرغم من فهمي ليه ولجوهره وتقبلي لمعظمه، إلا إن الكثير منه كلام عايم مبيأكلش عيش، يعني لو طلعت بحاجة من الرواية دي فهي أني مش عايز أكون صوفي。شمس الدين لما كان بيصل للحظات حميمية مع كيميا بعدين بيسبها ويمشي （مبيعملش حاجة） كنت عايز أدخل أديله على وشه。قواعد العشق ومعظم كلام الرواية ينفع يكون فيديوهات يوتيوب لذيذة لشخص عايش في بيت حديث مليان زرع ومحب ومفعم بالحياة （مش بقول ده كنقد خالص، بس حسيته كدة أكتر منها أفكار قوية）أخيرا حبيت كل الشخصيات، وإن كنت شايف إن الرواية لم تتكلم عن الرومي اللي هو أساس الرواية أساسا، حرفيا كانت بتلف حوليه، والرومي كطفل مسلم نفسه للتبريزي （في الرواية ）。 مش عارف بس حاسس إن ناقص حاجات كتير والكثير من الردود الروشة مش الذكية بتستفزني لما حد يسأل في حكم شرب خمر أو حاجة。بل ساعات بحس إن مفيش فرق بينهم وبين اللادينين مثلا الأتنين هيشربوا خمر والأتنين ممكن يعملوا أفعال كتير ضد صريح أقوال الدين، وهتلاقي الأتنين بيتكلموا في تبريرات متشابهة في جوهر العبادات غير إن ده مسمي نفسه صوفي وده لاديني مثلا، وبرضه أنا مش ضدهم هنا بما أني أكتر واحد بتعامل مع العبادات كجوهر، وشايف ممكن واحد يصلي وياخد ذنوب لو موصلش لفهم لجوهر العبادة عادي。فيه كلام كتير في دماغي ولكن لايسع المقام، ومظنش أني هكتب مقال ريفيو، ولو حصل هيكون بعد مدة طويلة لسه。عموما التجربة لطيفة، كنت بقول النقط اللي في دماغي أكتر من سرد إيجابيات وسلبيات。التقييم （٧/١٠） 。。。more

كتاب أخذ روحي و وجداني إلى عالم تمنيت لو وجدت فيه و لو لوهلة قصيرة 。 وجدت نفسي أميل لشخص شمس ، كيف يحب ، يحس ، يفكر ، يتكلم ، إنسان صادق مع نفسه فكان الصدق نفسه 。أحسن كتاب لإليف 。 أنا ما زلت أبحث إلى الآن عن كتاب يغير في أشياء كما غيرها هذا الكتاب。
